Graham Hunt (politician)
Graham Ryan Hunt (born April 21, 1979) is an American politician of the Republican Party. He is a member of the Washington House of Representatives, representing the 2nd Legislative District. Hunt was appointed to the state legislature on January 17, 2014 by the Thurston County Board of Commissioners and Pierce County County Council, despite being the second choice of the Republican Precinct Committee Officers from the district. Hunt then went on to win the general election in 2014 against his democrat challenger and received 62.53% of the vote. Hunt serves on the House Appropriations Committee, Business and Financial Services and is the Assistant Ranking on the Labor Committee.
Hunt served in the U.S. Air Force and deployed overseas in Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Southern Watch and Operation Iraqi Freedom. While serving in the armed forces Hunt earned the Medal of Commendation, Achievement Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal and was awarded several service ribbons, among these were ribbons for expert marksmanship. Shortly after Hunt retired from military service he started (Hunt Family Insurance Agency, ) a small business located in Lakewood, Washington.
As a small business owner and community leader he became involved in local issues that affected his community and in 2010 he sought a position on the Orting City Council. The following year, Hunt ran unopposed to retain his seat. Hunt served as the chair for the Transportation Committee and co-chair for Public Safety. In 2014, Hunt filled the vacancy in the Washington House of Representatives left after Gary Alexander resigned from his seat in the legislature on December 31, 2013 as he had promised to during his failed campaign to retain his position as Thurston County Auditor.
